Cleaning your parrots cage is very important!
It should be done thoroughly and regularly.
I recommend a good clean once a week and disinfect every 2 weeks.
If your cage is cleaned regularly, there is less chance of your parrot becoming ill, from bacteria that grows in old food and things that might lurk in the droppings.
Parrots wipe their beaks on perches, and bars, and toys so cleaning should be part of your routine.
I suggest that you keep all your cleaning equipment in one box and have it in a handy place. I have mine in a box in the garage. Remember that cleaning equipment will need to be changed regularly too.
Don’t take chances with dirty cages, and dirty cleaning equipment, keeping your parrot healthy and happy is your responsibility and it should be taken seriously.
WHAT TO KEEP IN YOUR CLEANING BOX…….
- A scrubbing brush
- A toothbrush with strong bristles
- A scouring pad with sponge
- A long handled brush
- A cleaning cloth
- A drying cloth
- Washing detergent
- Vinegar for when you are disinfecting.
- Gloves, if you are a bit squeamish!
HOW TO GO ABOUT CLEANING……
Remove all perches, toys and feeding dishes and soak in HOT soapy water
Scrub the cage with the brushes and scouring pad, again use HOT soapy water
If you are disinfecting, mix your vinegar with warm water and soak, perches, and toys.
Use the toothbrush for hard to get at places
Rinse everything thoroughly in warm water when you are finished
Allow everything to dry in the sun, if you can, before putting your bird back in the cage.
Remember sunlight also acts as a disinfectant.

Dishes need to be done between each feeding time, clean in HOT soapy water, rinse and dry.
